,, Sponsorship is the most important factor for young people to become good athletes. Having a sponsor gives the kitesurfer access to proper equipment and helps them grow in the sport.
Eudazio da Silva, a three-time Brazilian kitesurfing champion, was born and raised by the sea and amazed the world with his strong and confident kiteboarding freestyle. Today, at 32 years old, he has a kite school named after him and founded his own social project, EDS Kite Kids, in 2021. Since 2018, Eudazio has lived in Barra Grande, in the state of Piauí. “Now 28 children attend the lessons. There are many challenges, but the kite equipment always arrives.”
Eudazio has been kitesurfing since he was 8 years old, when he learned the sport that opened the doors of the world for him. Now, he gives boys and girls with the same dream a chance to change their reality. The discipline he developed in his own career now serves as an example for his students. “What I want is for the kids to broaden their horizons and have more choices in the future,” dreams Eudazio.
Marcelo Lopes, Eudazio’s partner in the project, was born in Parnaíba, Piauí, and now leads the theoretical classes. His son, Douglas Lopes, 13, is one of the great promises of Kite Kids and already travels locally to compete. “We have no support from school or family. The project nowadays is carried out among friends.”
Sponsorship is the most important factor for young people to become good athletes. Having a sponsor gives the kitesurfer access to proper equipment and helps them grow in the sport. In Eudazio’s project, the children learn about the importance of discipline, how to honor sponsorship, and also how to repair the kites they receive. Those who come of age teach the younger ones, which allows them to use the equipment and keep progressing. The eyes and hands of Cearense Eudazio da Silva are present at every moment.
